These planes were decommissioned, mothballed and then brought back to life years later to be used as unmanned target drones.This video shows some of the clips of them being sent up and shot down over the week that I was helping out. The planes that are performing the fly-by's(F-16 and F4) are the "chase planes" that have to catch up with the drone to make sure it takes off safely. Also the smoke you see from the first chase plane is from running the afterburner and partly because its an old aircraft too.
