1️⃣ Visit Machu Picchu
If you’re in Cusco, you have to visit Machu Picchu, one of the 7 wonders of the world!
By Train: Book with Peru Rail or Inca Rail. Takes about 4hours from Cusco to Machu Picchu. Cost starting at $140pp roundtrip, with multiple departures each day.
Or by hiking the Inca Trail: Book far in advance with a tour guide. We used Alpaca Expeditions and loved them! The trek takes 4 days and 3 nights and costs $795pp.

2️⃣ Tour the Sacred Valley
Visit the nearby Sacred Valley from Cusco with a tour, we used Alpaca Expeditions but there are many options. We visited an alpaca farm, the Pisac Ruins, and the Ollantaytambo Ruins.

3️⃣ Shop at San Pedro Market
Shop at this bustling market of downtown Cusco, filled with stalls selling everything from food to souvenirs. Tip: Buy coca candy to help with altitude sickness!

4️⃣ Souvenir Shopping Downtown
There are TONS of vendors and shops throughout the downtown area of Cusco selling souvenirs ranging from handmade goods to mass-produced alpaca products. Our favorite shops were the small local vendors in the alleys and side streets.

5️⃣ Explore Plaza de Armas
No trip to Cusco is complete without exploring the iconic main square, Plaza de Armas. Admire the architecture of the historic Cusco Cathedral and Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús (Church of the Society of Jesus).

6️⃣ Drink a Pisco Sour
A Pisco Sour is a MUST try during your time in Cusco – after all, it’s the national drink of Peru! A Pisco Sour is a cocktail made form pisco (a local liquor), citrus, and sweetener. It’s delicious!

7️⃣ Try Local Restaurants
Cusco is home to many AMAZING restaurants. Some of our favorites were Organika and Cicciolina: Try Organika Peruvian Restaurant for local, farm-to-table Peruvian food and Cicciolina Restaurant for Italian tapas with a Peruvian flair.

Other TOP things to do from Cusco:
Rainbow Mountain: Colorful mountain range near Cusco at 17k ft elevation. Can be a challenging hike due to altitude. Full day trip from Cusco, many tours available (costs $160pp with Alpaca Expeditions).
Saqsaywaman Ruins: Historic Incan citadel on the northern outskirts of Cusco. Can visit on your own or with a tour. Entrance fee is 130 soles or 70 soles for a shorter circuit if you’re short on time.
Moray Ruins: One of the famous Incan ruins near Cusco, consisting of 3 massive circular terraces. Can visit on your own or with a tour, as a Moray specific tour or as a part of a Sacred Valley tour.
