The Bell Curve is political propaganda. A Social Darwinistic fantasy married with neoliberal capitalism.
For the authors, IQ scores are a proxy for genetic quality, with low IQ people causing most of the problems in society.
Also, POC, as a group, are low IQ.
At it’s heart, The Bell Curve is right-wing outrage-bait about the eugenic fear of DYSGENICS (the over-reproduction of the genetically deficient low-IQ citizens) and why American taxpayers shouldn’t pay for it.
Also, POC, as a group, are low IQ.
The build-up to this fear-peddling conclusion is 500 pages of “scientific” looking analysis that were never peer reviewed before publication. A scientific faux pas.
Further, the pre-print galleys that are normally distributed to reviewers for preparation were not provided. A deviation from the norms
What were the authors hiding?
First, a set of flawed assumptions:
IQ is NOT ‘intelligence’
IQ/intelligence is NOT mostly genetic
IQ/Intelligence IS susceptible to environmental factors over a lifetime
Second, a flawed dataset
AFQT is not normally distributed
AFQT is not equivalent to IQ tests
AFQT are a measure of education level, not genetics
Third, a flawed analysis
Results have not been replicated
When replication was attempted, results are drastically different and do not support the BC narrative.
Fourth, tainted sources
Lynn, Rushton, Jensen, Mankind Quarterly
Fifth, a tainted agenda
Masking race pseudoscience as science, injecting it into public discussion in an effort to shape public opinion
