Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Chemist, Jennifer Rossi walks us through the labs at "The District" where they test water quality and treat water from homes and sewer systems. They monitor for bacteria, algae and much more to reduce pollution and improve water quality in our lakes and rivers, having a direct impact on habitats and ecosystems across the region. They test for oil & grease, titrations, bulk chemicals, solids and bacteria and biology.
Jennifer can be in any of their three labs on any particular day, depending on what samples are coming in & where the lab needs her help.
Jennifer fell in love with being in a lab during her first chemistry lab in college. She wants you to know that it's not going to be easy, you need to persevere, and stay dedicated. Do not be scared of failure. You may not always get an answer, but keep the curiosity alive and understand that failure might come, you'll continue to find those answers we don't have. We're seeing more and more women in STEM related careers. Lets keep breaking down those stereotypes - STEM is not just for boys anymore!
