What I’m about to show you most people in Orlando have A – never heard of or B never visited. It’s one of Orlando’s best kept secrets. It’s not a restaurant, it’s not a club, it’s not near the theme parks. It’s exactly opposite of what you might think Orlando really looks like.

I’m in the Lake Lawsona Historic District, which encompasses the Lake Lawsona - Fern Creek and Thornton Park neighborhoods – just east of downtown Orlando. I’m taking you to Dickson Azalea Park. The park gets its name from the azaleas that were planted in this area, and from Col. H. H. Dickson who – you know what – why don’t I just show you.

Dickson Azalea Park is one of the best kept secrets in the heart of downtown Orlando, Florida. It's moss covered stones, trees, and lush vegetation surrounding Fern Creek is an oasis in a town known mainly for theme parks. This is the "real" Orlando. Don't miss it next time you visit my city.

From land donated and set aside for public use by State Senator Walter Rose, the park gets its current name from the azaleas that were planted in the area, and from Col. H. H. Dickson, an Orlando business pioneer, who was instrumental in planting azaleas across the City.

Crossing through the middle of the park is historic Washington Street Bridge, a South Florida-style structure that was built in 1926 and an Orlando landmark.

You'll find the 3 1/2 acre park nestled in the Lake Lawsona Historic District at the corner of East Central and Rosearden Drive.
