In Panchagarh district, this haystack is called haystack in the local language. Every household has a poyaldhabi. The householders say that this tradition has been preserved in Panchagarh for hundreds of years. They have been preserving rice straw for cattle and buffalo food in this way. The householders also said that almost every household is raising cows. Currently, there is no fallow land. All the land is being cultivated in some way. On the other hand, the number of residential houses is also increasing. Therefore, green grass is not produced. And therefore, the poyaldhabi straw is now the main food of the cattle and buffalo. They are raising the cows with straw and water only. Even if the farmers feed them other food, it is beyond the householders' ability. On the other hand, the straw is not sold either. A large poyaldhabi or a pile of straw is sold for only 3 to 4 thousand taka.
বাংলাদেশের উত্তরবঙ্গে অধিকাংশ গৃহস্থের আঙ্গিনা বা বাড়ির পাশের খোলা যায়গায় শোভা পাচ্ছে ঐতিহ্যবাহি খরের গাদা বা পোয়াল ধাবী। এই পোয়ালধাবীর খরই এখন পালিত গরুর প্রধান খাবার। গৃহস্থরা বলছেন কৃষি আবাদ বৃদ্ধি এবং বাড়ি ঘর বেড়ে যাওয়ার কারণে সবুজ ঘাসের সংকট রয়েছে এই জেলায়। পশু পালনে সরকারের সহযোগিতাও বেশি নেই। এ অবস্থায় সরকারের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করেছেন তারা
ধান কেটে মাড়াই করার পর থাকে খর। এই খর রোদে বেশ কয়েকদিন শুকানো হয়। তারপর গৃহস্থের আঙ্গিনা বা বাড়ির খোলা যায়গায় মধ্যখানে একটি বাঁশের খুটি বা শুকনো গাছ মাটিতে পুতে তার চার পাশে খরগুলোকে স্তুপ করা হয়। একজন লোক খর বা পোয়ালগুলোকে ছিটিয়ে দেয়। আর বাকি ২/১ জন খরের স্তুপের উপর হাটতে থাকে। এভাবে খর বা পোয়ালগুলো উচু একটি খরের গাদা বা পোয়ালধাবীতে রুপান্তরিত হয়। পঞ্চগড় জেলায় এই খরের স্তুপকে স্থানীয় ভাষায় বলা হয় পোয়ালধাবী। প্রত্যেক গৃহস্থের বাড়িতেই রয়েছে পোয়ালধাবী। গৃহস্থরা বলছেন সেই শত শত বছর থেকেই এই ঐতিহ্য টিকে আছে পঞ্চগড়ে। গরু মহিসের খাবারের জন্য ধানের খর এভাবেই সংরক্ষণ করে আসছেন তারা। গৃহস্থরা আরও জানান, প্রায় প্রত্যেক গৃহস্থই গরু লালন পালন করছেন। বর্তমানে পতিত জমি নেই। সব জমিতেই কোননা কোন আবাদ হচ্ছে। অন্যদিকে বসবাসের বাড়ি ঘরও বাড়ছে। এ জন্য সবুজ ঘাস উৎপাদিত হয়না। আর তাই পোয়ালধাবীর খরই এখন গরু মহিসের প্রধান খাবার। খর আর পানি দিয়েই গরু লালন পালন করছেন তারা। খামারিরা অন্যান্য খাবার খাওয়ালেও তা গৃহস্থের সামর্থের বাইরে। অন্যদিকে খর বিক্রীও হয়না। একটা বড় পোয়াল ধাবী বা খরের গাদা বিক্রী হয় মাত্র ৩ থেকে ৪ হাজার টাকায়।
