Settings of Facebook allow a user to receive messages for the purpose of communication. These also provide the facility of conversation messages, link attachments or photo attachments.
This way you can even receive Facebook private messages that cannot be viewed by anyone except of yourself. Hence, it allows easy communication between you and others.

Step # 1- Selecting the message button
To send a message, click on a friend's "profile name" to go to it. Once you are there go to the "messages" button on the top right corner.

Step # 2- Editing and sending a message
Type your message in the "message" section of the new window. You can send a link as well by copying it and pasting it by pressing "Ctrl + V" from your keyboard. You can also click on the "attach a file" option in the same message to upload something. Click on the "send" button once you are done.

Step # 3- Go to the "new message" option
To send Facebook messages, you can also click on the "messages" option from the "home" page. Click on the "new message" button.

Step # 4- Send a new message
Add names of friends that you want to send a message to in the "to" section. You can add one or more names according to your requirement. Type the message and opt to attach a file or photo if you want. Then click on the option titled "send".

Step # 5- Selecting sent messages
Click on "messages" on the left side and then "settings" button from the drop down menu to select "sent messages". You can now see messages that were sent to your friends.

Step # 6- Read a Facebook message
To read a Facebook message, go to the "messages" section and click on a message which is highlighted in blue, this means that it is an unread message.

Step # 7- Send a message reply
To reply to your Facebook friends messages enter the text you wish to send and then press the "reply" button.
If you check the box below, then the message can be sent by simply clicking "Enter" on your keyboard. Uncheck the box if you want to keep using the "reply" button to send your message.

Step # 8- Send a reply in a group conversation
To send a reply in a group conversation, type your message and click on the "reply all" button. This way everyone included in that conversation will get your message.

Step # 9- Mark a message as unread
Click on the "actions" button in the messages page and select the "mark as unread" option. Notice that your message will now be highlighted again in blue. This makes it appear as an unread message.

Step # 10- Leave a message conversation
To leave a conversation, click on the selected message, then open the "actions" drop down menu. Select the "leave conversation" option to prevent getting further messages of people in the current conversation.

Step # 11- Delete a message thread
To delete a Facebook message click on it, then on the "actions" button at the top. From the pull down menu, select "delete messages" and then "delete all".

Step # 12- Report a message as spam
To report a message, click on it, go to the "actions" button and select "report as spam". Facebook will be notified of a possible privacy threat and will deal with it.

Step # 13- Going to privacy settings
To set privacy for Facebook private messages, open the drop down menu next to the "Home" button and select "privacy settings".

Step # 14- Select privacy settings for Facebook messages
In the privacy settings, go to the "how you connect" section and click on the "edit settings" button.

Step # 15- Edit privacy settings for messages
In the "who can send you Facebook messages" option, click on the "settings" button and make a selection. Depending on whom you want to get messages from, click on "everyone", "friends of friends" or just "friends". Select "learn more" if you wish to get some help in this regard or press "done" to apply settings.
