Part 4 : Kalsoy Island, Faroe Islands

Kalsoy is located in the Northeast Faroe Islands and is accessible only by boat. The island is long and narrow, with the population spread out across a small number of villages. There are four villages on Kalsoy Island:
Syðradalur
Húsar
Mikladalur
Trøllanes

Only 80 people live on Kalsoy Island, with Húsar being the most populous village, home to just over 30 residents.

This was another exciting tour to explore the seal women in Mikladalur and engage in the Kallur Lighthouse hiking activity, as well as visit the James Bond tombstone. We had an early departure at 5:40 AM from our house in Oyrarbakki to the Klaksvik jetty, in order to catch the first ferry at 6:40 AM.

The ferry must be pre-booked due to limited space; it can accommodate only 12 cars and operates 5-6 trips per day. The waiting time for the return journey could be longer during peak periods if you don’t pre-book.

To hike to Kallur Lighthouse, you drive from Syðradalur jetty, passing through four tunnels before arriving at Trøllanes, which is the trailhead. The hiking fee is DKK 200. The hike is moderate, with a round trip of 4.8 km and an elevation gain of 327 m. It is a popular area for birdwatching and hiking.

Kópakonan: A statue of the Seal Woman was erected in Mikladalur on the island of Kalsoy on August 1, 2014. The statue is 2.6 meters long, weighs 450 kilograms, and is made of bronze and stainless steel.

Take time to enjoy the stunning views along the hiking trails, relax your body and soul in the mountains, and absorb the positive energy. We were fortunate to have clear skies, good visibility, and soft winds.
