How to Crochet Scrunchie, Scrunchie with Bow Tie - Easy Pattern

This tutorial covers how to crochet scrunchie, with optional bow tie - a pattern that's easy to follow with step by step instructions!

Any medium weight materials would work with this free crochet pattern. Additionally, it should work beautifully with velvet yarn to make velvet scrunchies. MATERIALS:
Crochet Hook: I/5.5mm
Yarn: Medium Weight, 4 (but 5 should work as well -- try it with velvet yarn!)
Hair Elastic
Darning Needle
Scissors

ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
sc inc = single crochet increase
sc dec = single crochet decrease
inv dec = invisible decrease
hdc = half double crochet
hdc inc = half double crochet increase
hdc dec = half double crochet decrease
dc = double crochet
dc inc = double crochet increase
dc dec = double crochet decrease

HOW TO WORK BASIC STITCHES:
slip stitch (sl st): insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through all loops
chain (ch): yarn over and draw up a loop
single crochet (sc): insert hook into stich, yarn over and draw up a loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops
single crochet increase (sc inc): work 2 single crochet in 1 stitch
single crochet decrease (sc dec): insert hook into stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up another loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops
half double crochet (hdc): yarn over, insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops
half double crochet increase (hdc inc): work 2 half double crochet in 1 stitch
half double crochet decrease (hdc dec): yarn over, insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in the next stitch and draw up another loop (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 5 loops
double crochet (dc): yarn over, insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops
