Every year during the full moon of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar, Lao Buddhists celebrate the That Luang Festival. This year it falls on November 15th. The festival takes place at the most holy Buddhist site in Laos, Pha That Luang (Grand Golden Stupa) in Vientiane. The stupa is believed to house holy relics of the Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama - a bone from his sternum and some hair. People travel from all over the country to celebrate That Luang Festival with friends and family.

During the festival, Lao Buddhists perform rituals seen at many Buddhist holidays. On the first day of the festival, wax "castles" are used in a candle-light ceremony at nearby Wat Si Muang. The second day the wax castles are carried in a processional to Pha That Luang and placed around the stupa. Then the city is full of energy as cultural activities, such as song and dance, handicrafts, foods, and photo-ops, are presented all around. The third day is when the more important religious ceremonies take place. Gifts are offered to Buddhist monks, who chant blessings over those who hope to make merit for their next rebirth. The day is ended with a breath-taking display as everyone walks around the stupa three times in honor of the Buddha holding lit candles.

Father, we come to you on behalf of the precious people of Laos. We pray for your supernatural intervention during this year's That Luang Festival.

You are Lord of Heaven and Earth, the creator of the natural and the supernatural, the physical and the spiritual.

You alone have the power to set the captives free!

We ask that you would break down the spiritual walls that are keeping Thailand and the Buddhist world from you.
‌

We pray that you would remove the scales from their eyes and let them see that true freedom, true life, true wholeness in this life and the next can only be found in you.
‌

We pray that you would break every spiritual chain and hindrance that would keep the Gospel from penetrating the hearts of the Buddhist people.

‌‌
May the name of Jesus be glorified in the Buddhist world.
