1. Blinkit launches a 10-minute ambulance service in Gurugram
Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa announced on January 2 via X (formerly Twitter) that the service will expand to major cities across India within the next two years.
The ambulances are equipped with essential medical facilities such as oxygen cylinders, AEDs, stretchers, monitors, suction machines, emergency medicines, and injections.
Each ambulance will have a paramedic, an assistant, and a trained driver.
Initially, five ambulances will operate in Gurugram, bookable via the Blinkit app under Basic Life Support (BLS) for a flat fee of ₹2,000.
The initiative received praise on social media, including from Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, who said it elevates quick commerce to life-saving services.
2. DMart shares rise 15% after strong quarterly results
DMart, operated by Avenue Supermarts, reported ₹15,565 crore in revenue for Q3 FY2024, a 17% increase from ₹13,247 crore the previous year.
Following this positive announcement, DMart's shares surged 15% on January 3, closing at ₹4,153 on BSE, up from ₹3,615 the previous day.
Despite this growth, DMart shares have fallen 12% in the last 12 months, while the Nifty Index rose by 12%.
3. Nippon Life India Mutual Fund investors face a ₹1,830 crore loss
SEBI issued a show-cause notice to Nippon Life India Mutual Fund regarding its investment in YES Bank’s AT-1 bonds during 2016-2020.
The bonds became worthless due to YES Bank’s financial troubles, causing significant losses to investors.
SEBI suspects improper transactions between the fund house and YES Bank for mutual benefits, with ₹950 crore invested in bonds linked to the family of former YES Bank CEO Rana Kapoor.
4. EaseMyTrip shares fall 10% following CEO’s resignation
Shares of EaseMyTrip dropped nearly 10% over three days after CEO Nishant Pitti sold a 1.4% stake (49.9 million shares) for ₹78 crore and stepped down from his position.
The company appointed Rikant Pittie, previously CFO, as the new CEO. However, the decline reflects negative investor sentiment toward the management change.
5. December GST collections rise by 7.3%
India’s GST revenue for December 2024 reached ₹1.77 lakh crore, up 7.3% from ₹1.65 lakh crore in December 2023.
Revenue from domestic transactions grew 8.4% to ₹1.32 lakh crore, while collections from imports rose 4% to ₹44,268 crore.
The total GST collection for FY2024-25 so far is ₹16.33 lakh crore, a 9.1% increase compared to ₹14.97 lakh crore in the previous year.
6. Varun Beverages invests ₹412 crore in its South African subsidiary
The funds will help Beverage Company Proprietary Limited (Bevco) repay existing debt and strengthen its balance sheet.
Bevco manufactures and distributes PepsiCo products in South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
In December 2023, Varun Beverages acquired Bevco for ₹1,320 crore as part of its expansion in Africa.
7. IRFC and REMCL sign MoU for renewable energy projects
Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd (IRFC) and Railway Energy Management Company Ltd (REMCL) signed an MoU to finance renewable energy projects for Indian Railways.
REMCL will facilitate bidding processes for renewable energy and secure affordable power, while IRFC will arrange funds and review projects.
This initiative aims to help Indian Railways achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
8. Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra receive ₹246 crore incentives under PLI scheme
Tata Motors claimed ₹142.13 crore, and Mahindra & Mahindra ₹104.08 crore under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
The scheme offers incentives ranging from 8% to 18% for electric vehicles (EVs) and advanced automotive technology (AAT) components, promoting future growth and innovation in the industry.
9. Adani Group decides to sell its stake in Adani Wilmar
Adani Group plans to sell its 44% stake in Adani Wilmar, raising ₹17,100 crore.
A 31.06% stake will be sold to Wilmar International for ₹12,314 crore, with the remaining 13% sold through the open market.
The decision aligns with the group’s focus on core infrastructure businesses.
