I Spent 12 Hours on Thailand's $30 SECOND CLASS Sleeper Train | Bangkok to Chiang Mai 🇹🇭

Having spent a few days in Thailand's capital, I was keen to explore beyond Bangkok. I'd heard good things about Chiang Mai in the north of the country, and if it was anything like what I encountered in Vietnam's equivalent district of Sapa, then I knew I would be in for a treat.

It had been some time since I took a sleeper train, and given the convenience of not having to check in bags as I would at the airport, I thought I would see how Thailand's trains compared to those of Sri Lanka.

Unlike my other rail travels, there was no first class ticket available. Instead, I would have to settle for a 2nd Class A/C Sleeper ticket at a cost of around $30. Whilst it was by no means cheap (at around the same price as a shorter flight with AirAsia), I figured that it would be worth the novelty, as well as convenience, in discovering whether the country's reputation for kindness and cleanliness extended to its public transport.

I picked up some snacks for the journey at the station, which bizarrely didn't have a 7-Eleven, before taking my printed booking confirmation to the ticket inspector (it said that you MUST print this in order to board, but I saw other tourists simply scanning the QR code on their phone... I personally wouldn't take the risk in Thailand, given that tickets are generally more expensive than other places I've been).

In total, I spent 12 Hours on Thailand's $30 second class sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai - it was an eventful journey, with all sorts of surprises along the way. I'll leave it to you to watch the video and find out...
