Importance of Mahashivratri :

There are many theories behind this day but the most significant one is that on the day of Maha Shivratri, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. And so, every year, this festival is celebrated to mark their holy union.

Difference between Mahashivratri and Shivratri :

Shivratri occurs on the 14th day of each month on the Hindu calendar. There are 12 shivratris each year. Mahashivratri is considered the most significant of shivratris, which occurs once a year, between February and March.

Rituals For Mahashivratri

Some of the common rituals performed during Maha Shivratri include fasting, staying awake all night, offering prayers and offerings to Lord Shiva, and chanting mantras dedicated to him. People also visit Shiva temples to offer their prayers and perform special puja ceremonies.
