The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "While I was at the House in a state midway between sleep and wakefulness, (an angel recognized me) as the man lying between two men. A golden tray full of wisdom and belief was brought to me and my body was cut open from the throat to the lower part of the `Abdomen and then my `Abdomen was washed with Zamzam water and (my heart was) filled with wisdom and belief.
The washing of the Prophet ﷺ’s chest and abdomen with Zamzam before Isra & Mi‘raj symbolised spiritual purification and strengthening, not physical need. His heart was cleansed of human limitations, filled with wisdom and faith, and prepared to bear an experience beyond normal human capacity.
It teaches us that closeness to Allah requires inner purification before elevation — the journey to higher ranks begins with a purified heart, and not just outward actions.
Continuing with the hadith, Al- Buraq, a white animal, smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me, its stride was as long as the eyes could see. and I set out with Gabriel.
I mounted it and came to the Temple (Bait Maqdis in Jerusalem), then tethered it to the ring used by the prophets. I entered the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs in it,
and then came out and Two vessels were then brought to me. The first one contained wine and the second one contained milk, and both of them were placed before me. I chose milk. It was said by Jibril AS: You did right. Allah will guide rightly through you your Ummah on the natural course.
When I reached the nearest heaven. Gabriel said to the heaven gate-keeper, 'Open the gate.' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' He said, 'Gabriel.' The gate-keeper,' Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' The gate-keeper said, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' Then I met Adam and greeted him and he said, 'You are welcomed O son and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the second heaven.

The same questions were asked by the gatekeepers of each of the Heavens and the same responses were provided by Jibril AS, introducing the Prophet Muhammad SAW and that he has been invited by Allah.
On each of the heavens, Prophet SAW met various other Prophets and greeted them. All of them welcomed him and greeted him as a brother and Prophet, except Adam AS and Ibrahim AS who called the Prophet SAW their son.
