A U.S.-based labour rights group has alleged that workers at a Chinese factory producing the popular Labubu dolls were subjected to exploitative conditions. China Labor Watch (CLW) said its investigation found that employees at Shunjia Toys Co Ltd in Guangdong were forced to work excessive overtime, asked to sign incomplete or blank contracts, and denied paid leave. The Labubu dolls, sold through a “blind box” format, have built a strong global fan base in recent years. Responding to the claims, Beijing-based toy retailer Pop Mart said it is reviewing the findings. The company stated it would “firmly” require suppliers to rectify any irregular practices and added that it conducts regular audits of its factories, including annual inspections by third parties.
