On the Hard Fork podcast, co-host Kevin Roose highlights how AI is shrinking teams—one person now doing the work of 75—and how recent graduates are already struggling to find jobs in fields like tech, law, and finance. “A recent article in The Atlantic wondered if we’re starting to see AI competing with college graduates for these entry-level positions,” Roose notes. Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis responds by reflecting on a future of “radical abundance” and the political challenge of distributing AI-generated wealth fairly.

Many of the jobs we do today won’t be economically viable once AI really gets going.

We need UBI as an AI Dividend — a way to repay people whose data trained AI and whose tax dollars funded the research that made it possible.

It’s the foundation we need in this new economy.
