Theres something about who we are as the Jewish People. In the face of darkness, we have always found the ability to rise. It’s who we are, it’s who we always have been, and it’s who we always will be. Just look at the pages of Our Story.
After the tragic events that occurred on October 7th, I, was frozen. I couldn’t find a perspective. I couldn’t find strength. After a week or so of struggling, I was reminded of a conversation that I had with an incredible woman a year ago, a Holocaust survivor and woman of strength, Bobby Itzkowitz. I had asked her “How? How did you stand up after what you went through? How did you find the faith, the strength, to continue?”
She looked at me with the warmest eyes and replied softly “Shaifele, it’s who we are.” She pointed to the veins on her arms and said “It’s in our blood to be strong, even when it feels impossible. We always find strength because that’s the bloodline of the Jewish people”.
I realized then, what one of our main powers is and always has been… and where it comes from. When Avraham Avinu made the impossible choice to give up his son, when Rachel Imenu made the choice to give up the chance to marry her husband, when Esther Hamalka stood up for her people, when our grandparents made a choice to do everything to try and survive the Holocaust… each time they made a choice to be strong, I imagine as though a drop of golden blood was let into their veins. And with each courageous decision, with each moment of strength, that golden bloodline grew more powerful over the years. And so… “what’s in our veins is flowing gold.”
It’s who we are. We are strong, even when we don’t know how to be.
With that thought, I went to my piano and wrote this song to be a perspective shift for myself. It only feels right to share it with you as it began to give me so much chizuk, and I hope that it does the same for you.
In any moment of pain, of darkness, any time you may have to face the unthinkable, I pray and hope that you find the strength, even when it seems impossible. And when you can’t, dig deep into the archives of our story, and take your strength from our ancestors.
We are hurting. We are bleeding.
And yet, it is genetically embedded within us to somehow find strength in the face of the unthinkable.
As we approach the holiday of Chanukah, a time of miracles, I’m reminded of yet another chapter in Our Story. In the face of dark, we stood up, and our sheer faith, courage and strength wrote what became yet another chapter of perseverance in the Jewish story, a storybook of strength.
It is my hope and deepest wish that this song provides strength for you, in any moment that you may need it.
All my love,
Shaindy

Lyrics:
It’s like the air is filled with pain
And the world will never be the same
again,
It’s like there’s ashes in the sky
And the fear that’s in my eyes
Has got nowhere to go
How can the world go on and on?
How can I stand up tall when every bone is screaming?
How can we go and sing our song?
How can we live our lives when every soul is bleeding?
It’s the story that we’ve always told
What’s in our veins is flowing gold
We’ve made it through
the ages
It’s the story of our fortitude
Our trembling hands will write it
as we turn the tear stained pages
It's like we’ve been here once before
With our armor on the floor
Can we bring out the lion, roar
It's like the whisper of our past
Hands us something that
we didn’t know we had
And so we will go on and on
And we will stand up tall
when every bone is screaming
And we will live to sing our song
And we will fight for truth
when every soul is bleeding
Because its the story that we’ve always told
What’s in our veins is flowing gold
We’ve made it through
the ages
It’s the story of our fortitude
Our trembling hands will write it
as we turn the tear stained pages
Father up high
Please can you hear my cry
I need you more than ever
I need you more than ever
Father up high
Please can you hear my cry
Don’t want more tear stained pages
Can you wake me when it changes?
Father up high
Please can you hear my cry
I need you more than ever
I need you more than ever
Father up high
Please can you hear my cry
I know you’re right beside me
I know you’ll never leave me
So we wipe our tears
and stand up tall
We will be ok
We will not fall
A nation of survivors
And this story’s our legacy
How we find our way to victory
Father, we believe
So we wipe our tears
and stand up tall
We will be ok
We will not fall
A nation of survivors
And this story’s our legacy
We’ll find our way to victory
A nation of
A nation of
Believers
