US Vice President, J D Vance recently argued that one of the biggest threats facing the UK is a threat to free speech. The thing is, I kind of agree with him, but not because I'm worried about the threats he is, but because the UK has some of the most draconian policing laws targeting protestors in the West, namely the Policing Act 2022 and the Public Order Act 2023, which allow the police to arrest people for engaging in "noisy and disruptive protests." In this video, I argue that these laws need to be repealed, although I hold out little hope that this will happen - particularly because those who profess to care about 'free speech' don't actually want to defend this right when it is used in its most vital way - by those who are actually holding power to account.
