DIY Installing Rustic Oak Flooring – From TREE to FLOOR – Wide Plank Face Nailed Flooring

DIY Installing Rough-Cut Oak Flooring – In this video, Dad and I install the hardwood floors in the living room/kitchen area. These boards are made from rough-cut lumber (that have been planed down) made from trees from our land. It created a very rustic farmhouse floor. These are trees that we had cut down while clearing for the house. Then we hired Jason, from Willowridge Portable Sawmill, to come to our property and mill the lumber.

We face nailed the flooring boards using 3 1/2” square-head nails (link below). We tried to hit floor joist as much as we could. We put nails in the ends of all the boards, and some of those didn’t hit joist, but they did grab 3/4” subfloor. After all the floors were down, we set all the nails about 1/8” below the surface. That way we can run a sander over the floors.

Thanks for watching and subscribe to follow the progress of the house.
