Those minutes are engraved in my memory: 10 years ago, June 7 of 2014, standing at the edge of the Digifest NYC stage, waiting to be called up, hoping my then-girlfriend Taylor won't notice the box in my pocket that's hiding an engagement ring. She thinks my nervous glances are because the crowd is larger than we were expecting; because Ryan Seacrest's crew is filming; because the show-runners bumped us up to the main stage with 20,000 people screaming for Fifth Harmony. Though really, I'm nervous because she only knows half of the story while I already know what happens next. In a few minutes, the crowd and the stage and the stars will all be reduced to background blur behind us in photos that our future kids will revisit decades later. And she's just so pretty and lovely, I worry I'll forget everything I prepared to say. But I'm ok. In the end, anything else I say isn't as important. All that matters are those four words from me, and one word from her, and everything changes forever.
