Описание к видео How to Land a Veteran-Friendly Job: Tips from a Career Expert

What do servicemembers transitioning from the military need to know about job seeking?

When it comes to searching for veteran friendly jobs, it’s essential to be prepared, according U.S. Army veteran William E. "Bill" Kieffer. Kieffer is an author and public speaker who wrote about the challenges he faced during his own military transition—and offers suggestions to help others who are preparing separate from the military.

In his talk with RecruitMilitary’s Lucas Connolly, Kieffer says that hiring managers look to answer two questions during an interview—can the candidate get the job done and will the candidate fit well with the exiting team? To help this process along, job seekers should tailor their veteran resume to address the requirements as defined in the job posting. It's also essential to understand from the start that being in a civilian job will be different than being in the military. While the military trains people for specific jobs, civilian employers expect candidates to already have a certain level of aptitude.

Gaining that experience, explaining it clearly on a resume, and taking the time to learn a company’s culture will go a long way toward helping a veteran to find employment and succeed in a civilian position.
