Matthew 5:13-20, 43-48

In a book by former football coach and tv commentator Urban Meyer with the title Above the Line "The line" he was talking about was the standard he set for himself and his team.

The book consisted of a number of qualities to adhere to, to be
"above the line" as a football team – although I've seen his book
quoted on a number of business sites, as it certainly applies to a lot
of different aspects of life"

I. The Standard of Witness to the World (:13-16)

A. God's People are to be "the salt of the earth"

B. God's People are to be "the light of the world."

Il. The Standard of Obedience to the Word (:17-20)

A. The Standard of Our Belief in the Word

B. The Standard of Our Practice and Teaching of the Word

Ill. The Standard of Imitating God's Love (:43-48)"

"THINK ON THIS: RIGHTEOUSNESS"

God's righteousness is His unchanging, perfect character. It is expressed through His just judgment and in His merciful, saving work in Christ, making sinners righteous in His sight.

It is a gift offered to believers who are offered a right standing with Him through Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)

We can find His righteousness as we study and meditate on Scripture and follow by faith that we also receive as from God (Romans 10:17) as we trust and learn how to obey we grow in grace.

Benefits of Righteousness—

Righteousness delivers from death. ...

The righteousness of the upright delivers them....

The righteous man is rescued from trouble - Proverbs 11:8

He who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward - Proverbs 11:18

The desire of the righteous only ends in good - Proverbs 11:23"

Our culture is obsessed with the end of the world. Some have a theory as to how it will happen—zombie apocalypse, alien invasion, Jesus comes back. Others have a plan for exactly when and where they think it will all go down.

Does the imminent approach of the end of the world make you uneasy or fearul? Why or why not?
