A very grim day in Florence today but that didn't stop our adventure in the beautiful town. Later in the afternoon, we decided to go to Pisa (only an hour from Florence) to visit and explore the leaning tower of Pisa. We also were able to climb all the way to the top! Below is history about the leaning tower as well as the cathedral and baptistery.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa, an iconic symbol of Italy, stands tall amidst the historical beauty of Pisa's Cathedral Square. Construction of the tower began in 1173, intended as a vertical bell tower, but its distinct lean emerged due to unstable soil and foundation issues. Despite attempts to rectify the tilt during construction, the lean persisted, creating its unique charm. Rising approximately 56 meters, the tower's tilt, around 5.5 degrees, has drawn millions of visitors over the years, eager to witness its architectural marvel and snap the classic "holding up the tower" photos. Adjacent to the tower lies the Cathedral of Pisa, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, boasting intricate Romanesque façades and splendid interior mosaics. Constructed between the 11th and 12th centuries, the cathedral showcases the mastery of Italian architecture and artistry. Facing the cathedral stands the Baptistery of Pisa, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, showcasing a harmonious blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Its circular plan and impressive dome house remarkable sculptures and artworks, including those by Nicola Pisano and Guido Bigarelli. Together, these structures form the Piazza del Duomo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, captivating visitors with centuries of history and architectural brilliance.

Join us on our adventure to Pisa (where I actually ate pizza lol)!
