Hello Everyone, it's Sue Ferreira here from Wisdom To Wealth Mastery with a video about how to add subtitles or closed captions to your Facebook live videos on Faecbook Page.
No need to use YouTube or rev.com, if your video is less than 5 minutes long and on a Facebook page.
Life never get any less complicated and Facebook has noticed that a lot of people watch Facebook videos, especially Facebook live videos, with the sound turned off.
However, Facebook allows you to add subtitles or closed captions to your Facebook videos. But until now, you've always had to do this in a
fiddly way by downloading your Facebook video fiddling around with it, so it is in a form that you can upload to youtube and then, upload it to youtube and get the closed captioning that comes with all youtube videos. Next, you have to download the .SRT file, upload this SRT file back into the video you have on Facebook.
Why would you want to put closed
captioning on your videos anyway? Because it's been shown this has a higher engagement, if you have closed captioning so people can watch your video with the sound turned off.
However in the last few days, there is now a way you can add closed
captioning/subtitles, whatever you want to call them to your Facebook Live videos, which saves you an awful lot of the fiddling and avoids going to YouTube and back. I'm going to show you how you add subtitles or closed captions to Facebook Live
videos without using YouTube or rev.com.
As of the day of recording this video which is middle November 2016, this method of adding subtitles or closed
captioning to Facebook Live videos only works on a Facebook fan or business page, which you prefer to call them and only for short videos of less than 5 minutes, for now.
It doesn't work on Facebook groups or on personal pages.
Facebook is always changing, so I'm sure it will come to groups and personal pages soon, so keep checking, but at the moment, it is only
for business or fan pages.
Here is a video that I made a couple of weeks ago when I was a speaker at a meeting, so first of all I'm going to scroll up and on the sidebar here, where you will see all of your videos. Don't go to
the video place at the top, come on down to the one on the right hand side here and click "videos".
This will bring up the screen where you can see all of your videos, as thumbnails and if you click here, at Video Library you will now get a written list of all of your videos and here's my video.
Here is the last video I made and alongside is a little "edit" video button, so let's click on that one and up will come this page.
We have "captions" here, so we're going to click on "captions" and now, there's a new option. Here is your option that you had
before, to upload your SRT file you would have either got from rev.com or from YouTube, but now we have this neat little button alongside "automated generate captions for video", so we'll click "generate" and as you can see it has now produced a .srt file along side the
video.
As I said sometimes the speech to text recognition isn't perfect.
This one says instead of "Hi Sue Ferreira here", it says "Hi super era" and "I am at the wonderful "sue
kava" instead of Sooke Harbour House, so you
often will have to go through afterwards and edit your text, which you can do perfectly easily by editing it, as you need.
Now all I have to do is edit this further. We can "save
to video" and "save" again. Now if we go back to our video
Hey Presto, we have our closed captions on the video. You've
got to admit this is a little bit easier than going through YouTube or through rev.com. I hope this video on adding subtitles and captions to Facebook Live videos has helped you.
