WHY reunification failed football

Описание к видео WHY reunification failed football

In November 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell, football in East Germany didn't look too bad. Dresden had reached the UEFA cup semis a few months before, the national team had just beaten Olympic champions the Soviet Union, and the league was full of promising talents like Kirsten, Rösler and Sammer.
Fast forward to November 2019, and everything has changed. Not a single team from the GDR first division in 1989 is even close to playing in the Bundesliga. Dresden is struggling at the bottom of second division, and record champions Dynamo Berlin are stuck in the fourth tier alongside former European Cup winners Magdeburg. Other clubs were hit even worse.
How did that happen? Why did German reunification fail in football?
