Europe’s digital future is at a turning point. The European Union is actively working to lead the global tech race, particularly enforcing innovation in the areas of artificial intelligence, quantum computing and semiconductors. Still, according to the European Commission's 2024 data, the EU is lagging behind the US and China.
Some facts:
      • 80% of the technologies and services for Europe’s digital transformation are developed       outside the Union;
      • Only 13% of high-value startups are based in the EU;
      • Less than 4% of the top online platforms are of European origin.
To stimulate innovation and support digital transformation, the EU is now proposing a series of policy initiatives, including simplification of regulatory procedures, support for local business development and major investment programmes. European investments in digital technologies have increased tenfold over the past decade, from €39.3 billion to €389.3 billion.
The aim of these steps is to make Europe's digital market more favourable to local startups and attractive to investors, accelerating innovation and boosting Europe's competitiveness on the global stage.
