Theories of Communication:
1. The Rhetorical Tradition
= the first tradition and the old name of communication
2. The Semiotic Tradition
= communication as the process of sharing meaning through signs (icons, index, etc)
3. The Socio-psychological Tradition
= communication as interpersonal interaction and influence
4. The Phenomenological Tradition
= communication as the experience of self and others through dialogue
5. The Socio-cultural Tradition
= communication as the creation and enactment of social reality
6. The cybernetic tradition
= communication as a system of information processing
7. The critical tradition
= communication as a reflective challenge of unjust discourse.

2 Theories of Communication:
1. Symbolic Interaction Theory
= the process of interaction in the formation of meaning for individuals, we can't see the process but we can see from the behavior. The goals are to creare a shared meaning.
2. Expectancy Violation Theory
= increases non-verbal behavior awareness gives practical advice on when it might be advantages.
