Back to my favourite topic - mixers and audio routing!

Join me in this video for a deep-dive into the old but still very relevant and powerful X-Desk - and a comparison of the main differences and similarities between it and the Big Six (and some pros / cons of both to help you make up your mind about which one is best for you!)

Summary:

The now discontinued SSL X-Desk can be seen as a fore-runner to the current crop of small-format mixing consoles ('Six' and 'Big Six') from pro-audio giant Solid State Logic (SSL).

At first glance, the B6 has a host of additional features (such as onboard compression, pre-amps, EQ and multi-channel interface) – plus a clear user interface that can hugely simplify your workflow - whether you're tracking, mixing or summing.

So why are home (and pro) studio owners till seeking out the older X-Desk? Apart from being available to buy (used) at a much lower price point, you may be surprised to discover that the X-Desk has a lot of similarities to its modern counterpart - and while it's more complex to set up and use, it comes with incredible connectivity, quality and a few interesting tricks that actually make it more flexible in some areas than the Big Six - and for some people it might just be a better choice as a small studio hub.
