Sculpting Feet in Marble // Start to Finish // Stone Carving Techniques // Modern Athena Sculpture

Using a mixture of traditional chisels and power tools, the delicate process of sculpting feet in marble from start to finish is demonstrated on the Modern Athena sculpture. Jyl Bonaguro, a contemporary sculptor, demonstrates stone carving techniques using traditional tools such as the tooth and roundel chisels along with rasps in order to sculpt realistic feet in marble.

"Over twenty years ago, I dreamed of carving a female figure of major stature - a Modern Athena on the scale of Michelangelo’s David out of a single block of marble. It seemed an impossible dream. However, in 2014, a friend offered me some blocks of marble and I began teaching myself how to carve stone. In the ensuing years, I have exhibited and sold works nationally and internationally, along with completing residencies in Italy and Greece.
