Product Info: Scattergories, from Hasbro Gaming, is for 2-6 players, ages 12+. The game comes with 6 folders, an answer pad, 48 category cards, a timer and instructions. You'll need pens or pencils, not included. Scattergories has been entertaining gamers since 1988, and has not changed all that much over the years. The gameplay is very simple - roll the big 20-sided die, call out the letter facing up, and then list words that begin with that letter. To begin, each player takes one folder and one answer sheet. Pick one of the 16 lists, turn over the sand-timer, and start writing. The goal is to list 3 answers, for each of the 12 categories, on that list. When the timer runs out, players take turns reading their lists, and score one point for any answer that no other opponents have also listed. You get additional points if multiple words in your answer start with that letter. For example, if the letter is M and the category is Famous Athletes - I'd get one point for Mariano Rivera, and two points for Moses Malone. After you add up your points, flip the answer sheet. Use the same category list, and roll the die for a new letter. Add your totals from the two rounds, and the player with the most points wins. Along the way, you're sure to disagree with some answers. For example, the category is Birds and we roll a B. I write down Big Bird, in hopes of getting 2 points. An opponent may argue that Big Bird is not a real bird. All players vote if that is an acceptable answer. If you run out of lists, the game comes with blank cards to create new categories. Additionally, you can write new categories on any piece of paper. The die doe not include some of the trickier letters, such as Q, U, V, X, Y and Z. Advanced players should feel free to play those letters too. Scattergories is great for game night, or the dorm room. There's good reason that Scattergories has been so popular for almost 30 years - the rules are simple, the gameplay is challenging, and the results are hilarious.
