Application of Fourban- 4 Layer Compression Bandage
This tutorial demonstrates how to apply 4 layer compression bandage on your lower limb. This free video gives you a thorough understanding of the technique for wrapping and tells you the importance of the bandage.
Wrapping of Bandage :
- Hold your ankle at 90 degree angle. Apply the bandage from base of the toe and circle the bandage around the ankle, covering the Achillies tendon and cross back over to opposite of the foot.
- Layer 1- Orthopaedic bandage, layer 2 - confirming bandage and Layer 4- Cohesive bandage is wrapped in spirally around the leg. Proceed up to the leg with 50% overlap. Finish the wrap below the knee at the last circle, secure the bandage firmly with a tape.
Note: The layer 4 should be wrapped with 50% stretch.
- Layer 3 - Elastic compression bandage is wrapped in figure 8 technique at the ankle by pulling up on the bandage as you wrap around the back of the leg. Proceed up to the leg with 50% overlap and 50% stretch. Finish the wrap below the knee at the last circle, secure the bandage firmly with a tape.
- All bandaging layer must be applied from the base of the toe to below the knee. This prevent your foot and top of calf from any swelling.
- Your bandage should feel firm but not tight. This will allow you to move your ankle and foot freely.
- The pressure limit of the four layer bandage is 35-40mmHg of pressure.

-CONTRAINDICATION:
If ABPI (Ankle Brachial Pressure Index) is less than 0.8mmHg the four layer bandage is contraindicated.
Septic Phlebitis.
Abscesses
Uncontrolled Congestive heart failure
-INDICATIONS:
CVI-Chronic Venous Insufficiency (with/without wound)
Lymphatic disorders
Elephantiasis
