Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf Story Opens Up On The Downfall of His Career

Описание к видео Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf Story Opens Up On The Downfall of His Career

It’s safe to say that no other player in NBA history had a career quite like Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

He entered the league as the third overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft. In his first two years, he was victim to Paul Westhead’s asinine coaching style. The 1991 Nuggets allowed an NBA 130.8 points per game and had a -10 average point differential.

Westhead was fired after two years in Denver. His replacement was the great Dan Issell, who revitalized Abdul-Rauf’s career. Under Issell, Mahmoud won Most Improved Player and became one of the best scoring guards in the league.

But everything changed in March of 1996 when it was brought to national attention that Abdul-Rauf was not standing for the National Anthem. The Nuggets, the NBA and much of America turned on him, and before long he was out of the league entirely.
