OP DE KOFFIE #6 - Polis Efraimidis

I met Polis in september 2022 when he was playing with a project of a common friend, Wouter Vandenabeele. I fell in love with his intense and very emotional playing and singing. We connected right away and I was so happy to know he was coming back to Belgium and we could play together.



Polis plays the Pontic Lyra or Kementche and is a master in Pontian music. This Greek community lives with huge nostalgia of the time they were living in the Black Sea region of Turkey and you can hear that strongly in the music. As well the cultural influence as the huge feelings of nostalgia of Turkey and anger about the genocide they had to suffer and that forced them back to Greece.


We play for you 2 dance suites, that I accompany in a non-traditional way.



"Op de koffie" means so much as "visiting for a cup of coffee" in my mother tongue, Dutch. In 2023, I will be inviting 27 people to meet in Studio Galinella, this wonderful place I share with some friends. We have fun together and play some music, connecting through the most beautiful language we have.
