A Midsummer Night's Dream - Act 1 Scene 1 - Presented by Theater on the Internet

Duke Theseus and Hippolyta, his bride to be, return to Athens to discuss their wedding, coming in four days time. They are approached by Egeus, a citizen of Athens, who explains that his daughter, Hermia, is promised in marriage to Demetrius - however, she refuses to wed Demetrius, preferring her love, Lysander, and Egeus would have the law of Athens invoked to either force her to marry or execute her. Lysander and Hermia discuss their plan to flee Athens and elope, sharing it with their friend Helena.
