In computer networks, both limited broadcast and directed broadcast are concepts related to broadcasting messages to multiple hosts. Let's take a closer look at each:

Limited Broadcast Address :-

The limited broadcast address is used to send a broadcast message to all devices on the local network segment. In IPv4, the limited broadcast address is 255.255.255.255. When a device sends a message to this address, the message is delivered to all devices on the same network segment but does not go beyond the boundaries of that segment. Limited broadcast is typically used for tasks like network discovery or service announcements within a local subnet.


Directed Broadcast Address :-
Directed broadcast is a concept where a broadcast message is sent to all devices on a specific subnet. Unlike limited broadcast, directed broadcast has a specific subnet address. The last address in a subnet is used as the directed broadcast address.

For example, if you have a subnet with the network address 192.168.1.0 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, the directed broadcast address would be 192.168.1.255. When a device sends a message to this address, the message is delivered to all devices within the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet.

Directed broadcast has been deprecated in many modern networks due to security concerns, and its use is limited.

It's important to note that with the widespread adoption of IPv6, broadcasting as a concept is being phased out in favor of multicast and anycast communication. IPv6 relies more on multicast and does not have the traditional broadcast mechanism present in IPv4.
