In this video, we’ll show you the complete process of slab reinforcement, slab casting, and curing followed in G+1 to G+4 residential/commercial buildings as per Indian Standard (IS) codes.

1. Slab Reinforcement Work:
• Marking of slab grid lines and layout
• Fixing of shuttering and centering support

• Reinforcement for extra top at column junctions (negative reinforcement)

2. Slab Casting Process:
• Final checking of centering and levels
• Application of shuttering oil
• Mixing of concrete (on-site or RMC)
• Pouring of concrete (usually M20 or M25 grade)
• Vibrating the concrete using needle vibrators
• Leveling and finishing the top surface
• Ensuring no honeycombs or segregation

3. Curing Method:
• Initial curing with wet hessian cloth or water sprinkling
• After 24 hrs – ponding method (if slab is flat and exposed)
• Continuous curing for 7 to 14 days
• Use of curing compound where ponding is not feasible

• Always maintain clear cover as per design
• Ensure proper laps and bends in steel bars
• Double-check reinforcement spacing with BBS
• Don’t forget side shutter bracing to avoid bulging
• Curing is critical – improper curing leads to cracks and reduces strength
