Marshall Hall was built in 1725 and served as a plantation house for the Marshall family. As many as 80 slaves once worked these grounds. https://tinyurl.com/rlsz96y

Around 1865, the grounds became a highly frequented picnic area due to its proximity to Washington D.C., Alexandria, and historic Mount Vernon. In the 1880’s, steamships operated by the Mount Vernon and Marshall Hall Steamboat Company offered travelers round trip passage.

In the 1890’s, visitors could watch jousting tournaments, play games, and ride amusement rides. Gambling was also a major draw after World War II, and between 1949 and 1968, Marshall Hall was known to offer the only legal slot machines in the United States outside of Nevada.

In 1977, high winds from a severe thunderstorm destroyed the rollercoaster. And in 1980, the National Park Service dismantled all remaining vestiges of the amusement park. Sadly, a fire in 1981 destroyed the mansion. It is believed the fire was an act of arson. Today, Marshall Hall is part of Piscataway Park and offers visitors a nice place to relax, socialize, and have a picnic.

This short film was created by amateur filmmaker Keith Elliott using a (2011) Sony Handycam, model # HDR-CX360V, Koziro mini tripod, and recorded in High Definition (HD) 1080p.

Film sequences were shot in one day, late afternoon, over the span of 2 1/2 hours. Post production editing took approximately 10 hours.

Post production editing and color correction was performed on a 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 iMac, using iMovie, version 10.1.9 running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6.
