The Best Way to Know When & How to Water Succulents and Avoid Overwatering Succulents, in my Experience.

Remember, we’re trying to push it a bit to induce coloring, so the plant feels slightly underwatered. But if the leaves are full and they feel firm, then it can go longer without much additional watering.

There are several reasons why you would want to test for it this way, instead of feeling the soil. First if you’re like me, the top dressing gets in the way. And even if you don’t have the top dressing, you might have different sized pots, where the soil could be dry on top and still pretty went on the bottom.

It’s my opinion that if you want to get into coloring up succulents, that you should restrict water based on the condition of the plant itself, rather than by time or by the soil.
