How to tie the Improved Clinch Knot. The Clinch knot is one of the most used knots in fishing. The stronger Improved clinch knot, also referred to as the Salmon Knot, is utilized to fasten a fishing line to a fishing lure or to attach a fishing line to a swivel, clip, or artificial fly. The extra pass through the second loop improves the clinch knot and makes it a very reliable knot for braided line. Anglers commonly use this knot due to its easy tying process and secure grip. As more tension is applied, the knot tightens, boosting the connection's strength. It is compatible with various types of fishing lines such as mono-filament, fluorocarbon, and some braided lines. Used for Salmon, Lingcod, Halibut, Bass, Trout, Steelhead, Panfish and just about anything. For thicker Monofilament you may want to bypass running the line through the second loop to tie a traditional clinch knot. This knot has been proven to be very reliable if tied correctly and should be one of the first knots learned by every angler.
