The world of network marketing and MLM is a field that on the outside looks very simple but once people get involved and which to have serious success actually will find out that it is much harder than it looks. Using the sports example of surfing when you see somebody gracefully hold a line on a massive wave it looks like they are doing very little. They stand there in one position and charge straight ahead in many cases gracefully exiting at the end of the wave. Networking looks a little like that as well - you see people that sign up and in ninety days they have a massive downline and are on their way to the top tier in their company. There success is usually achieved because they have learned to work smarter and harder than the other 99%.

When it comes to building a large distribution network that will pay you residual income for years to come you have to be able to attract the best leaders out there. These are typically people with the following three traits.

Trait #1 - Understand Risk and Overhead. First and foremost this is a business and any business is fraught with an element of risk. In networking the risk is very small. In the worst case where there is failure on behalf of the new rep the most they will lose will be the time spent trying to build the business. Any product purchases are simply consumed or sold. The overhead portion has to be understood as there are costs associated with any business start up. In MLM these costs are quite low but they are costs non the less.

Trait #2 - Understand Profit and Loss - Any business owner has to understand this concept or they will not be around for long. Business ownership in general has a very low percentage of success. Those that do make it live and die by knowing what they need to do in order to be profitable and when they are operating in a loss position. Most business run in the red in the beginning, the good ones have it all mapped out on a proper business plan and then they go out an work the plan. The trick is to slowly bridge the gap over time between profit and loss. That is why recruiting those that understand this will have a much greater chance at long term success.

Trait #3 - High Need for Freedom and Residual Income - When you can adequately express what the end goal of the network marketing business is to others you will do very well in the long term. Lets face it nobody can get excited about selling soap or supplements. They can get fired up about earning an income while lying on a tropical beach sipping a Pina Colada. You have to be on the lookout for people who absolutely need to run their own businesses and get the concept of passive income.

If you can get this one concept your business will grow very well over time. Instead of signing up somebody from a lead list that has never had a business of their own and will require hand holding before they quit you will sign up winners and step out of their way.
