RAVENOUS (1999) - Best Horror Movie You Never Saw

On this episode of The Best Horror Movie You Never Saw, we're looking at Antonia Bird's RAVENOUS, which boasts an outstanding cast that includes Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle, David Arquette, Jeremy Davies, and Jeffrey Jones. Ravenous defies easy description. Even in the horror-comedy category, it doesn't necessarily fit in with other genre movies since its laughs are of a much grimmer variety.

As one of the more shrewd and bizarre studio horror pictures of the last few decades, It holds up a lot better than its disastrous release and may even be a forgotten classic that is ripe for rediscovery. With a final cut tinkered with by the studio and a release date buried between Cruel Intentions, The Rage: Carrie 2, and The Matrix. Its Opening weekend saw Ravenous come in at the 18th at the box office before pulling in a final domestic gross of just over $2 million against its reported $12 million budget. Ravenous is entertaining, passionately crafted, and well-composed for all its occasional tonal and constant production quirks; we recommend it highly!
