Houston and Guayaquil Fire Department Met to Establish a Collaborative Partnership between Organizations

HGSCA in its quest to re activate the Fire Department Relationship between Houston and Guayaquil. the organization hosted a delegation from the Guayaquil Fire Department ("Benemerito Cuerpo de Bomberos de Guayaquil - BCBG) that came to Houston, Texas to establish a collaborative partnership with the Houston Fire Department. This relationship is intended to be used as a conduit to generate collateral benefit to not only Guayaquil but also to neighboring cities and towns.

HGSCA in its quest to re activate the Fire Department Relationship between Houston and Guayaquil. the organization hosted a delegation from the Guayaquil Fire Department ("Benemerito Cuerpo de Bomberos de Guayaquil - BCBG) that came to Houston, Texas to establish a collaborative partnership with the Houston Fire Department. This relationship is intended to be used as a conduit to generate collateral benefit to not only Guayaquil but also to neighboring cities and towns.

Houston Council Member Robert Gallegos, who is also member of the HGSCA Advisory Board and a champion for working with families, seniors, citizens with disabilities, and for issues of importance to immigrant communities, Andrew Sherr, Consul General of United States in Guayaquil, Ruth Duenas, Consul General of Ecuador, Chief Samuel Pena,who leads the HFD, and Chief Martin Cucalon, who leads the BCBG, were key players in connecting our fire departments. They strongly support our sister city program and believe in its mission to use citizen diplomacy to promote peace and goodwill between our communities.



To kick off the activities planned for the delegation, HGSCA threw a dinner welcoming the delegation to Houston on Tuesday, December 12 at Tango & Malbec. Houston and Ecuadorian community leaders such as Jorge Gomez, President of the Ecuadorian Association in Houston, Former Council Member Felix Fraga and his wife Nelly Moyano Fraga, Xavier Suniga, Dina Arya, Ex-Cap HFD - Homero Ponce, and Dr. Pedro and Sylvia Arguello attended the event.



At the dinner, Robert Gallegos, Houston Council Member District I presented to the Guayaquil Fire Department delegation a token of appreciation from the City of Houston signed by Mayor Sylvester Turner.



The visit lasted 3 days and was held from December 11 to Dec 13. The delegation met Chief Samuel Pena and visited the Houston Fire Fighters academy.
