Beginning Watercolor Tutorial - Gradient Sunset Sky and Mountains

This is a beginning watercolor tutorial showing how to paint a gradient sunset sky and mountains that recede in the background. This tutorial uses three colors - ultramarine blue, cadmium red medium, and cadmium yellow. If you don't have these exact colors, use something similar.
The first step is to paint a gradient sky with ultramarine blue at the top thinned out to a pale blue. Then adding a smear of yellow and finishing the lower half of the painting with the cadmium red and blended together.
The mountains are painted using ultramarine blue and cadmium red to create a blueish purple. Working bottom to top (or back to front) start painting a pale wash of a mountain and blend out the bottom where it hits the next mountain. After it is dry, continue painting each mountain layer in succession.
