Composer Statement: "Sonare For Double Bass And Ensemble", much like my other compositions, does not draw inspiration from external sources. As a composer, my aim is to craft a sonic eld, presenting the audience with the query: "What are your impressions of these structured, human-made sounds?" The title "Sonare..." is a reflection of this underlying concept.

This composition represents a continuation of my artistic exploration of the Double Bass as a solo instrument. It is the next step after showcasing the instrument standalone on stage. Now, I position it as a soloist interweaving with other instruments within the ensemble.

I endeavor to construct a rich, saturated, and tense sonic eld, particularly emphasizing low frequencies, where the double bass resonates most profoundly in my perspective. The composition is filled with an array of extended techniques, and I strive for disparate sounds to mutually enhance one another, resulting in a nuanced and intricate palette of colors."

*Director’s Note: Chedryk’s other compositions with the title Sonare have been written and performed in Ukraine and Germany. This World Premiere was written specifically for performance in New York at UCMF. In this way, it is part of a migrating musical collection.
