A short video on the life of menstrual cup pioneer Leona Watson Chalmers. Leona had BIG dreams for her life and with determination and confidence she moved from Ohio to NYC. Famously, she pawned the family piano to get there. Leona was successful and became a big star but only for a small amount of time. She married, moved to Philadelphia, had a child, and retired from public life or so it appears. Her husband tragically made her a widow after which she started her next chapter in life. She filed her first patent for a menstrual cup in 1935 then moved to NYC again. There she established her one woman show selling the Tassette by mail order. It was also sold in select drug stores. She also wrote two books. The wartime rubber shortage caused a hiccup for her plans but she tried again and again to make her cup a success. In her 70s she reads an ad by a business man in search of an exciting idea to buy. He buys it and relaunches Tassette, which years later relaunches again as Tassaway in a new design. The cup company goes into serious debt and folds, taking the idea with it until the Keeper Cup in 1987.
