當地時間7月2日早上6時30分左右，位於緬甸北部帕敢的一個翡翠礦區發生大規模塌方，約有200人被掩埋。事發礦區位於緬甸克欽邦帕敢鎮，與我國雲南省接壤。礦工在帕敢鎮陡峭的山地上尋找翡翠，這裡的地表因以往的開採而變得稀鬆，山體滑坡頻發。
