When Britain stood alone in World War Two, Winston Churchill knew speeches alone wouldn’t stop Hitler. After the miracle of Dunkirk, as German forces prepared Operation Sea Lion — the planned invasion of Britain — a secret army was formed in the shadows.

They were called the GHQ Auxiliary Units. Farmers, poachers, miners, and gamekeepers were recruited, trained in silent killing and sabotage, and hidden in underground bunkers across the countryside. Their mission was simple — and brutal: cause chaos, kill key targets, and delay the Nazis for as long as possible.

Most were told they’d survive only two weeks. They weren’t expected to come back.

This is the story of Churchill’s secret guerrilla army — the men who volunteered to be Britain’s last line of defence, and the extraordinary wartime secret they kept for 50 years.
