The Vibes of Fatal Frame 3: Guilt and Grieving

Описание к видео The Vibes of Fatal Frame 3: Guilt and Grieving

I vibe check Koei Tecmo's underrated horror classic, Fatal Frame III: The Tormented. This game made me a Fatal Frame fan. I've spent over half a year chewing on every inch of it. This is not only one of the best stories in a horror game, but the atmosphere is truly unparalleled. The way it touches on survivor's guilt is also unbelievable touching.

This is not a review, but instead an analysis of the themes born from the atmosphere and subtext.

There will be full spoilers.

This video goes into some dark topics, some very personal. For that reason, it is not going to be monetized with ads.

I was happy that my thoughts on Silent Hill 4’s domestic horror resonated with people. Thanks. But it got me thinking: Surely SH4 isn’t the only game to do this? That question didn’t sit for long, thanks to a friend recommending Fatal Frame III: The Tormented. While I think it’s important to view games on their own merits, this will be a sort of companion piece to that other video—if only to not retread old ground. You don’t have to have seen it, but if you have, just know that I think you’re swell. Fatal Frame 3 practically weaponizes its atmosphere to both scare the player as well as tell one of the most emotional stories I’ve experienced in this genre. Which surprises me, because I never bothered with this series until recently because I just assumed it was ghost schlock, but that is far from true. This is one of the most thoughtful horror games I’ve ever played, and I’m a Fatal Frame fan now.

Rei Kurosawa is a young photographer grieving over the death of her fiance, Yuu Asou. They were driving in a rainstorm one night and got into an accident that took his life. Months pass, and Rei and her assistant find themselves photographing a decrepit and abandoned manor. After seeing Yuu’s ghost there, she begins having strange, recurring nightmares that culminate in finding a snowy place called The Manor of Sleep. She’ll spend the next few nights descending deeper and deeper into its halls as she dreams, the horrors of the manor seeping its way into her real life. Signified by a painful tattoo carving itself into her skin the further she descends.

Game cry, game good: Fatal Frame III. Dude this part is for the algorithm don't read this garbage.
