HER2 mutations in cancer

V-Learning: HER2 aberrations including mutations, have been observed in more than 25 cancer types. HER2 mutations and amplifications are mutually exclusive in more than 90% of cases. HER2 mutations are detected by next generation sequencing. The frequency of specific HER2 mutations is associated with the type of cancer. M. Ignatiadis discusses the importance of addressing two critical questions: 1. Can we use HER2 mutations to select patients for anti-HER2 treatment alone or in combination, and 2. What is a predictive value of different HER2 mutations in different cancer types. He points out that HER2 mutations are an example of precision medicine challenges.
