For those not familiar with Jussi Bjorling, he was born in 1911 in Sweden and throughout his career he was regarded as one of the world's greatest tenors and even today many still rate him as the best ever. He made many wonderful recordings, mostly operatic but many others of different genres. Unfortunately in 1960, the year after he made this recording of O Holy Night, he suffered a heart attack and died at the age of just 49.
I recently uploaded an updated version of this recording which has slightly better audio quality, a spoken Christmas greeting from Jussi, coloured photos and an on screen translation to English.

This is the original 8 2 1959 mono recording. I have tried to get the best possible sound from the recording and just to give a live effect and add presence I have added applause.
Jussi sings this in his native language, Swedish.
The original text was from a poem called "Minuit,chretiens" (Midnight,christians) which was written by French wine merchant and poet Placide Cappeau in 1843.Soon afterwards a French composer Adolphe Adam composed the music and the song was called Cantique de Noel (Song of Christmas).In 1855 an American Minister,John Sullivan Dwight produced the well known O Holy Night which is not really a translation but follows the spirit of the original poem.
I don't know who translated Sullivan's words to Swedish but, as sung by Jussi Bjorling in this video they are as follows

Då Gudamänskan till jorden steg ned
För att försona världens brott och synder
För oss han dödens smärta led
Och hoppets stråle går igenom världen
Och ljuset skimrar över land och hav

O holy night, o most holy moment in the world
When the son of God steps down onto the earth
To repent the world's crimes and sins
He suffered the pain of death for us
And a ray of hope shines through the world
And the light shimmers across the land and sea

People, fall to your knees, and happily meet your freedom
O holy night, you gave us salvation
O holy night, you gave us salvation

The Saviour removed our heavy shackles
Our Earth is free, heaven is open now
You see a beloved brother within your slave
And see, even your enemy loves you
The Saviour brought us peace from Heaven
And he descended to his quiet grave for us
